Replace a Desktop Power Supply (PSU)

Tools needed
- • Phillips screwdriver
- • Anti-static wrist strap (recommended)
Safety first
- • Unplug the PC from the wall and hold the power button 10s to discharge.
- • Never open a PSU — capacitors hold dangerous charge. Replace the whole unit.
- • Ground yourself before touching components.
Steps
- 1Note (photo) every cable the old PSU connects to: motherboard 24-pin, CPU 4/8-pin, GPU, SATA power for drives.
- 2Unplug all PSU cables from components.
- 3Unscrew the 4 screws holding the PSU to the case rear and lift it out.
- 4Mount the new PSU, screw it in, and connect the matching cables (24-pin, CPU, GPU, SATA).
- 5Double-check connections, plug in, flip the PSU switch to I, and power on.
